Apply anyway. Most applicants have at least one required pre-requisite course in progress at the time of application. And it really isn't a big deal to us. We only worry if you have a lot of pre-requisites outstanding, because then it can be hard to evaluate your transcript.
You can even be admitted with a pre-requisite, or two or three, in progress. But here's the deal- your admissions is then conditional upon successful completion of the required course (and by successful, I mean a letter grade of "C" or higher). And the course has to be (succesfully) completed by August 1, 2012, in order to actually start classes in the Fall.
So in a nutshell:
- Apply early in our rolling admissions process, even if pre-requisites are in progress.
- Get a minimum of a "C" in all remaining pre-req classes.
- Make sure all in-progress or planned pre-req's will be complete (as in, class over) by August 1.
Easy, right?
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI'm an economics major at the University of Dayton in Ohio. During my sophomore year I decided I wanted to be an optometrist, and started taking the necessary pre-req's. I am just curious as to whether my application will be competitive considering I have taken the bare minimum of science classes, and still have a few left to complete. So far I have fulfilled all of the requirements except for microbiology, anatomy, and physiology. My GPA is around 3.5
Any insight you could provide would be helpful.
Thanks,
Sean O'Neill
Hi Sean,
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you! I will follow up with you privately over email!
But for other readers out there- having 2 or 3 pre-req's in progress is generally fine.
