Of Monsters and Men

It's already March?  I can't believe how fast the time flies.  Less than a week ago the third year students finished taking their part 1 of NBEO boards examinations, we are happy it's over.  Our grades don't come out for about a month, so right now we are recovering from our intense months of preparation and celebrating.  In May our fourth year officially begins and we are sent off to all parts of the country (and some go over seas) to start our clinical externships.

Today though, I happily received a invite via text message from one of my favourite Portland radio station (94.7FM for the curious) hosting a session with the band Of Monsters and Men.  Naturally, I called some classmates and we headed into down to Mississippi Studios to see this band all the way from Reykjavik.

Of Monsters and Men have not yet released an album in the US, it debuts April 3.  With seven musicians on stage, they filled the studio with sound - some switching instruments throughout.  The trumpet carries the melody in their song entitled "Little Talks" adding a bright sound to their layers of guitars and piano.

The co-singers, Nanna and Raggi, work  together seamlessly trading off verses and complimenting each other with harmonies while strumming their guitars.  In other songs the band members sometimes just clapped and other times they would rock a little accordion. Everything they did sounded fantastic and I am so happy to be in Portland and  get a chance to see them as they start their tour.
